One of the last cabinets Krenov completed, this 2006 piece is evidence of the high standards Krenov held his work to, even as his eyesight and dexterity began failing him.

Krenov’s enjoyment of composing spalted woods is in full display on this cabinet’s maple doors, and like many of his later veneered cabinets, it does not use book matching or other patterned arrangements, instead relying on a more painterly or artistic layout of different patterns of wood grain.

The stand, made from mahogany, echoes the leggy and anthropomorphic forms that accompanied many of Krenov’s cabinets throughout his career. The interior layout, divided vertically into two asymmetric halves and further subdivided by drawers on the right, provide a flexible but intentional space for storing or displaying small items.
